This past Wednesday, September 18, Our Lady of Grace Catholic School celebrated the richness of its Hispanic Heritage. From its beginnings (the school was first staffed by sisters from Spain) to its current dual-language (English-Spanish) program, now in its third year, OLG understands the importance of learning more than one language in order to enable brain synapses to grow and develop.
In partnership with Boston College, OLG is a member of the Two-Way Immersion Network of Schools (TWIN) a national program of over 30 Catholic elementary schools that integrate a second (and sometimes a third) language into the curriculum.
OLG is the only dual-language Catholic school in the diocese of Oakland and we look forward to growing our program in the years ahead. We thank our teachers, Sra. Corzo and Sra. Fajardo for all of their hard work not only with this assembly but with the development of the program.
Celebrating our ties to the Hispanic culture is a great way to reinforce the richness of our curriculum (we also introduced Latin to the language arts offering in Grades 6-8 and so far, it has proven to be a seamless addition).
Feliz mez de la hispanidad!
